If you are starting to clean keto lifestyle, I am here to help. I’ve rounded up my top Clean Keto Must Have Items below. Through my experience, these are all my favorite things that makes eating clean a breeze.

WHAT IS CLEAN KETO?

The Ketogenic diet gets its name from the small fuel molecules called “ketones” produced by your body as an alternative fuel source that is used when blood sugar is in low supply. Once your body starts producing ketones, your body is now in ketosis. Our body’s first choice of fuel for energy is carbohydrates.  There are two ways to get your body in ketosis.  The first and very unsafe way is starvation.  This is absolutely NOT recommended.

The second is eating the keto diet. The main thing to track is your daily consumption of Total Net Carbs.  You can find this by looking at the nutrition label and subtracting your dietary fiber from your total carbs. Your goal is to keep you total net carbs under 25 grams of carbs per day. Some people can enter ketosis eating up to 50 grams of net carbs a day. However, this takes testing and time to find out how high your tolerance is.

Since your carb consumption is very low, your diet must be high in fat or else you won’t have enough energy to sustain yourself. You should not feel like you’re starving.  You should feel sustained and have plenty of energy.  This is a red flag that you’re not eating enough fats. About 70% of diet should be from fats, 20-25% protein, leaving 5-10% coming from Carbs.

CLEAN KETO MUST HAVE ITEMS

MCT Oil

There are many benefits associated with the consumption of MCT oil, the most notable being increased energy, anti-microbial, brain health, and weight loss. This is an amazing addition to blend in your coffee!

Nutpods

Nutpods are literally life saver while eating clean keto. I use the flavored ones in my coffee and tea. I will froth it in my milk frother and it comes out thick and creamy every single time. The original unflavored comes in handy with soups and casseroles. These really are a MUST HAVE!

Sparkling Water

Topo Chico LaCroix, and Bubly are great alternatives to sodas. If you are tired of drinking just regular water, gives these a try. I love pouring a Lime Topo Chico over crushed ice with 2 lime slices and the rim of the glass coated in Tajin Seasoning. It serves as a great mocktail

Unsweetened Tea

I always keep a big gallon of unsweetened tea and Tazo Passion Unsweetened Tea in my fridge. They are so flavorful and gives you a needed break from water. I will also add the Tazo tea over ice with some Nutpods. It’s so delicious. You can find both of these items at any grocery store

Unsweetened Coconut Milk

Unsweetened coconut milk is a substitute for heavy whipping cream. It is in a lot of soup and casserole recipes and adds a nice creamy texture. Don’t worry if you aren’t a coconut fan. It is really mild coconut flavor and doesn’t overpower a dish. Always buy the full fat and steer clear of the “lite

Chomps Beef Sticks

Chomps Beef Sticks are great to keep on hand for an easy grab and go snack. You can also pair it with a veggie and a cup of bone broth for a complete meal. My kids even love taking these in their lunch boxes

Primal Kitchen Ketchup

Primal Kitchen Ketchup is super clean and only has 2 NET carbs. It’s awesome to keep in your pantry or fridge.

Seaweed Snacks

These are the perfect snack during either Whole30 or Clean Keto. They are made from premium organic seaweed, roasted to crispy perfection

Coconut Aminos

Coconut aminos are a soy-free alternative to soy sauce, tamari, and Worcestershire. Made from aged coconut sap, they’re great for sauces, dressings, marinades, and anything else you can think of. You can find this at most all health food stores and Amazon.

LIGHT Olive Oil & Avocado Oil

These two oils will save you while eating clean keto. LIGHT Olive is the main ingredients in most all cream base sauces and homemade mayo. Regular olive oil WILL NOT work for a homemade mayo. It must say LIGHT or EXTRA LIGHT.

You can also use Avocado Oil for mayo along with searing meat at a high temperature. Avocado Oil has a high smoke point and it won’t burn your meat or smoke up your house like other oils will.

Xanthan Gum

Xanthan Gum is a thickening agent that is used in soups, sauces and casseroles. The great thing about Xanthan Gum, is a little goes a long way and it has less carbs than Tapioca or Arrowroot. You can also find these at all health food stores along with Amazon.

Ghee and Clarified Butter

In most ALL Clean Keto recipes, it will require gheeGhee and Clarified Butter are pure butterfat, but ghee is cooked slightly longer than clarified butter and has a nuttier taste. Both can be used in place of butter and are dairy free. Ghee is available to purchase at Walmart, Aldi, Trader Joes, most all Health Food Stores, and Amazon

Nutritional yeast is one pantry item I always have on hand. It has a “cheesy” and “nutty” texture and flavor but doesn’t contain cheese or dairy. It is Keto and Whole30 compliant and adds great flavor to soups, casseroles and even on top of salads.

Coconut Wraps

I’m obsessed with these coconut wraps. They are clean keto compliant and have super clean ingredients. In addition, they are low in carbs and perfect rolled up with deli meat and veggies. They have just the right amount of coconut flavor and it’s not too strong.

Bone Broth

Bone brothBone broths are hearty enough to be sipped straight from a mug, but they also make great bases for soups or stew. You can buy them in a powder form and make mix your own or you can buy it already mixed. I drink bone broth daily and it has helped so much with my arthritis along with my skin, hair and nails.

Tahini

This is another great item to keep in your panty. This adds flavor to recipes and can even be made into some yummy sauces.

Almond Flour

Almond Flour is great to keep on hand to use as a sub for bread crumbs. I will toss it with chicken and shrimp to give it a nice crunchy coating and also use as a great topping on my favorite casseroles. Be sure to click on my favorite Whole30 recipes below that use Almond Flour.

Natural Heaven Hearts of Palm “Pasta”

I’m super excited I found Hearts of Palm Noodles. They are literally life changing and tastes so much like real noodles and they are Whole30 and Keto compliant. They aren’t mushy and really hold their shape well. In my opinion, they are the closest thing to noodles out there. I buy from Natural Heaven and absolutely love their product and mission. They carry Angel Hair, Lasagna and Spaghetti

Almond Butter

Almond butter is great to have in a jar or in travel packs. You can eat it with fruits or veggies as a great snack on the go

Wide Mouth Jars

Having wide mouth jars on hand is super important during a round of Whole30. I always make my own sauces using a wide mouth mason jar and an immersion blender. This method is simple and easy and doesn’t mess up multiple dishes. You can make the sauces right in the jar, add a lid and you’re done. The wide mouth is important so that the immersion blender fits in the jar.

Sparkling Water Machine

This is a super great product to have on hand if you are a sparkling water drinker. It is so easy and can also make other drinks besides sparkling water.

  1. Thank you for the free clean eating plan! I have a question. Some of the recipes call for a few tablespoons of the canned coconut milk. How do you store the leftovers and how long is it good for? I’ve heard you can’t freeze it?

  2. I did not see this list of foods before asking my questions. I am so sorry to cause you more overload! 😔 Thanks for all your insight, you are so appreciated.
