This high protein ranch is made with cottage cheese that blends into that creamy, classic ranch texture we all love. It comes together in 5 minutes and can be adjusted into a thick protein ranch dip or a pourable dressing, depending on how you use it! I love to serve it on these grilled chicken wraps for an extra high protein lunch.

Why You’ll Love Protein Ranch

Y’all, this is one of my favorite ways to make ranch at home because it keeps that classic flavor but uses simple, nourishing ingredients. Once blended, the cottage cheese turns completely smooth and mild, so you get that creamy texture without needing protein powder or mayo.

I use this both ways depending on the meal. You can keep it thick for dipping chicken tenders or veggies, or thin it out for a healthy cobb salad, chicken wrap, or burrito bowl. It holds up really well in the fridge, which makes it easy to prep ahead and use throughout the week!

Ingredients You’ll Need

High protein ranch recipe ingredients laid out in small nesting bowls on a light green countertop.
  • Cottage cheese: The base of this protein ranch dressing. It blends into a smooth, creamy texture and adds protein without overpowering the flavor. Greek yogurt is also a great option.
  • Homemade ranch seasoning: This is where all the classic ranch flavor comes from. You can use store-bought or make your own! It’s super easy, I promise.
  • Milk of choice: Used to control the consistency. Start with a small amount if you want a thicker protein ranch dip, then add more as needed.
  • Apple cider vinegar: Adds a light tang that balances the creaminess and helps mimic traditional ranch flavor.
  • Lemon juice: Brightens the dressing and keeps it from tasting flat or too heavy.

Recipe Variations

  • Greek yogurt can be used in place of cottage cheese if that is what you have on hand. The texture will still be creamy, but the flavor will lean a bit more tangy.
  • For a dairy-free option, use a plain non-dairy yogurt. Choose one with a neutral flavor. I don’t recommend coconut-based yogurts. They add a slight sweetness that does not work as well in ranch.
  • You can also adjust the consistency based on how you plan to serve it. Use less milk for a thick protein ranch dip, or add more milk or water for a thinner dressing that pours easily.
  • For another version of high protein ranch dressing, this dill pickle cottage cheese ranch is SO darn good!

How to Make Protein Ranch Dressing

Cottage cheese, ranch seasoning, milk, apple cider vinegar, and lemon juice in a blender.

Step 1: Add the cottage cheese, ranch seasoning, milk, apple cider vinegar, and lemon juice to a blender. A blender works best for a creamy, smooth consistency compared to a food processor.

Step 2: Blend until completely smooth. The mixture should look creamy with no visible curds. If needed, stop and scrape down the sides, then blend again until the texture is even.

Expert Tips

  • A blender makes a noticeable difference here. It creates a much smoother result than a food processor, especially when using cottage cheese!
  • Taste after blending and adjust if needed. Ranch seasoning blends can vary, so you might want a little more lemon juice or a splash of milk to balance it out.

Storage & Make-Ahead Tips

Store in a sealed jar in your fridge. It will keep well up to the expiration date of the cottage cheese or yogurt used. Stir or shake before serving if it thickens over time!

Recipe FAQs

Can I use Greek yogurt instead of cottage cheese in this high protein ranch dressing?

Yes, Greek yogurt works well. The flavor will be slightly more tangy, but will still be high in protein.

Can I make this protein ranch dairy-free?

Yes! Use your favorite plain non-dairy yogurt and omit the cottage cheese.

Is this protein ranch better as a dip or a dressing?

It works as both. Keep it thicker for more of a ranch dip, or thin it out with more liquid for your standard ranch dressing.
