Wouldn’t you agree that when trying to eat healthy, drinking water can get real boring, real fast? I love incorporating no sugar added mocktails that help change up my water routine. Instead of reaching for a sugary soda, I will whip up my Blackberry and Lime Cranberry Mocktail that is Whole30, Paleo and can even be tailored to meet the Keto guidelines. This drink totally hits the spot and leaves me feeling refreshed and satisfied.
When building a mocktail, I love using sparkling water as my main base. It gives it a fizz just a like a soda pop would have and adds a ton of flavor. For this mocktail, I used Waterloo Black Cherry Sparkling Water and it is out of this would yummy. Next, I will muddled some fresh blackberries in lime juice along with adding in some no sugar added cranberry juice, and garnished with mint. These flavors pair so well together and really scream summertime.
Can I turn this Blackberry and Lime Cranberry Mocktail into a real cocktail?
Absolutely! I love adding tequila or even vodka to any mocktail recipe. Using real fruit juices and sparkling water is a healthy way to create a cocktail in a super healthy way. When ordering a cocktail at a restaurant or even buying the premixed cocktails can leave your glass full of sugar and calories. Just making a few adjustments such as using sparkling water as the base, instead of a soda pop can save you a ton of calories and leave you enjoying your mocktail/cocktail guilt free.
What are other good sparkling water options for a mocktail?
I am a big fan of Waterloo because they have really intense fruit flavors. In addition, I love Spindrift, Topo Chico, and Lacroix. Below are my go to flavors when mixing mocktails/cocktails.
- Topo Chico– Regular and Lime flavor
- Spindrift– Lime, Strawberry and Lemon
- Lacroix– Mango, Key Lime, Grapefruit, Pineapple and Strawberry
- Waterloo- Watermelon, Black Cherry and Mango
Can I have mocktails and fruit juice while on a Whole30
While on a Whole30, incorporating a mocktail occasionally is a great way to change things up in a compliant, yet satisfying way. When using compliant ingredients, mocktails are totally acceptable on the program.
I always get the question about incorporating fruit juices while completing a Whole30, is it compliant? The answer is, yes…in moderation. According to the Whole30 website, “Fruit juice is the only acceptable added sweetener on the Whole30. (We had to draw the line somewhere.) Use it to flavor sauces, soups, or entrees. However, while drinking a glass of fruit juice is technically compliant, we really wouldn’t recommend it, even if you juice it yourself. Juicing strips many of the nutrients out of the fruit, but still leaves all of the sugar. We’d much rather you just eat the fruit.”
