BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Ketchup*
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar or keto sweetener
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons coconut aminos OR Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1.5 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 cup water or more water as needed to thin
  • Optional 1/4 tsp cayenne for extra spicy
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon liquid smoke

Instructions

  • Whisk together all the ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Allow it to come to a soft bubble and reduce heat to low. Allow the sauce to simmer until it becomes thick, about 10 minutes.
  • Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 7 days. 

Notes

Whole30: True Made and Primal Kitchen are great Whole30 and Paleo ketchup brands. For Whole30, remove the brown sugar or brown Swerve, as neither of these is compliant.
Consistency: Make this bbq sauce to your desired consistency by adding water. If you prefer a thicker bbq sauce, add less water. If you prefer a thinner sauce, add more water.
