Once spring rolls around, I am all about the “Smoothie Life.” With St. Patty’s Day just around the corner, I wanted to create a delicious green smoothie that gives me all the spring feels. Currently, matcha is my new obsession and guess what….it’s GREEN, so this smoothie is perfect to carry around so you don’t get pinched on March 17th. I played around with a few different recipes until I found the perfect one. This smoothie can be a quick on-the-go breakfast or a great afternoon snack.

Frozen bananas are my secret ingredient that make my smoothies fluffy and creamy. I try to keep 6 frozen bananas in my freezer for an easy grab and go smoothie ingredient. When building my smoothie recipes, I try to be mindful with how many fruit combinations I use. Adding too much fruit can cause a sugar rush. Some smoothies will call for anywhere between 2 bananas and additional fruit on top of that…that’s a lot of sugar y’all. Always remember, every smoothie doesn’t need 4 or 5 different fruits to be delicious. Try adding a fruit and mix in some veggies with a hint of honey or maple syrup.

This recipe does contain some sugar, but not a lot. I have only added in 1 fruit source, so compared to other smoothie recipes, it is still relatively low. In place of fruit, I love adding in power veggies that serve as a source of energy and nutrients. Avocado and spinach are 2 other ingredients that really brings this smoothie to life. It adds a vibrant green color along with extra nutrients that will help you power through your day.

Matcha and collagen are a couple of my other favorite ingredients to add to smoothies. Just by adding a serving of collagen, you can get almost 18 grams protein. If you are bored with your traditional breakfast or afternoon snack and you need to change up your routine, give this recipe a try!!

Matcha Smoothie

The Perfect Paleo Matcha Green Smoothie!
Prep Time: 2 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 1 person

Ingredients  

  • 1 1/2 Frozen Banana
  • 2 Large Handfuls Baby Spinach
  • 1 tbsp avocado
  • 1 tbsp Matcha Green Tea Powder
  • 1 cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup
  • Cocoa Nibs to top
  • unsweetened shredded coconut to top

Instructions 

  • Add in the almond milk to your blender or Vitamix followed by the matcha green tea powder, spinach, avocado, and vanilla extract.
  • Turn on high and blend until smooth and creamy.
  • Top the smoothie with unsweetened shredded coconut and cocoa nibs. If you are not a coconut fan, just omit.
