What Makes This Recipe Great?

With the holidays right around the corner, this DIY Dessert Charcuterie Board will surely be a hit at your next party or gathering. It may look super fancy, but it’s simple and budget-friendly to put together, It would be the perfect addition to any special occasion menu: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Holiday Parties, you name it!

Feel free to personalize this board however you choose according to your sweet tooth! For my tray, Walmart saved the day with their 50-cent mini pies. Not only are they reasonable, but they are super yummy!

What Is A Charcuterie Board?

According to Webstraunt Store, “In the French tradition, charcuterie (a French term, pronounced “shahr-ku-tuh-ree”) is the art of preparing and assembling cured meats and meat products. … A charcuterie board is an assortment of meats, cheeses, artisan bread, olives, fruit, and nuts, all artfully arranged on a serving board.” It’s really quite the experience because there are so many different flavors and textures. Plus, it’s fun!

However, for this board, instead of filling it with traditional charcuterie board meats and cheeses, I have replaced it with mini pies and fruit for the ultimate dessert platter!

It’s the exact same concept, but with different ingredients. The best part about any charcuterie board is they are versatile and can be presented in many different, unique ways.

How to Make a Simple Dessert Charcuterie Board

This whole tray only costs around $15.00 at Walmart. That includes pies, whipped cream, berries, and greenery. What I love most about this dessert charcuterie board is that everyone gets their own mini pie, and you don’t have to worry about slicing individual pieces of a larger one. The work is already done for you. Have your guest grab a pie and add whipped topping and berries of choice.

I found this adorable black hammered tray at Walmart for only $10.00 and the bowl for only $3. Then, I started placing the pies. I did blueberry, apple, pumpkin, cherry, and pecan.

Finally, I added whipped cream to the bowl and garnished it with fresh berries and sage. Walmart has a lot of different flavors for the pies, so feel free to pick your favorites to add to your board.

Ingredient Notes

The best part about a dessert charcuterie board is that you can really make it your own based on the event, guests and preferences, themes, and more! Plus, feel free to use store-bought items or homemade treats. Switch it up with your own favorite sweet treats and enjoy!

  • Mini Pecan Pies
  • Mini Pumpkin Pies
  • Mini Blackberry Pies
  • Mini Apple Pies
  • Blackberries
  • Cranberries
  • Whipped Topping
  • Fresh Greenery/ Herbs: I used fresh sage.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Place the whipped topping in a medium-sized bowl and transfer to the middle of a large circle tray or wood board. From there, starting on the left side, start stacking the pies by flavor. I started with pecan, then it went to blackberry, pumpkin, and apple.
  2. Add in the blackberries and cranberries in between all the pies. Finally, garnish with herbs and greenery.
  3. Serve and enjoy!

Mac’s Pro TipS

Expert Tips

  • Be sure to leave the whipped topping in the refrigerator until right before serving.

Recipe FAQs

What type of tray or wooden board do I need?

Feel free to use wooden cutting boards or any type of trays, metal, or wood. You can find these cutting boards and trays really anywhere such as Walmart, Target, Amazon, Tj Maxx, Marshalls, and Home Goods. If you are wanting to keep it simple and not purchase anything new, simply slap some brown butcher paper on a table and build it on that. Clean-up will be a breeze.

How to build a charcuterie board correctly?

For me, I always like to place my dips and bowls first, then add in the larger items equally throughout the board. Finally, I add the fruit for color and greens for garnish. There is no right or wrong way to build a charcuterie board. Just focus on making it balanced throughout.
